It perfectly explains the theory I have formed about the phenomenon of “Karen”. Angry, middle aged women. In 1990, I was 22. Embarking on the world of adulting. The world of 24/7 technology rolled out before my very own eyes. I watched as we were feted with answering machines, then pagers, then car phones, then emails, internet and mobile phones. At every turn, we were told; no - promised: “This will make your life easier”. It has not. It’s made everything harder. Got a problem with your telco/banking/insurance? Remember when you could pick up the phone and have a human being help you get it sorted? Now it’s “go online and do it yourself”. But, but! The convenience they say…. You can pay your bills from your sofa at 8.30pm! I don’t want to be paying bills at 8.30pm, I want to be reading a book, watching a film or playing a board game with my son. Like my family did when I was a kid.
As you mentioned, the same with food; I remember margarine dropping in the 1970s. They said “we have the technology, we can give you low-fat, low-salt, zero sugar, this that and the other thing, it will make you healthier!” Eating Frankenfoods has made everyone of us sicker. And ditto for all the other points you raised.
Of course the world is full of “Karen’s”. And D-Fens’s. We’re angry, because we’ve been sold lie upon lie upon lie for our entire lives, and it’s wearing thin…
No one talks about the horrible effects of television. It has rotted our brains and made us lazy. The big shift to living in urban areas has also gotten people off the land and most are now reliant on others to keep them in food, clothing, etc. No one knows how to do anything for themselves anymore. Hell, most young women can't even cook a meal anymore. Pitiful!
I will say one of those is going away at least in some stores and that is self check out! I used to work at Walmart part time in addition to my full-time job in about 2017 2018 when they started installing self check out.
Customers were pissed and let it be known you were getting rid of jobs for people, but they did it anyway.
The stealing, which we knew was going to happen, but you couldn’t tell the powers that be caused the business to lose a good bit of money.
Here we are in 2025 and Walmart is now removing self check out at least in my neck of the woods.
I still work my full-time job and I work part-time at a Dollar General store and they’ve for the most part gotten rid of their self check out due to stealing.
So at least one of those things on your list is hopefully on its way out for good although I do like checking myself out at the grocery store because I feel like I do it better and faster than some of the employees that don’t seem to care how they bag your groceries.

The newspaper has never benefitted men. It always controlled the narrative in favor of corporate exploitation. It caused generations to fall into "Newspaper think," which is a terrible malady of the intellect, where all your thoughts are reducible to a simple vocabulary and sentence structure. The newspaper was always a deleterious influence on the populace.
